Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Dhaka (Cultural Department of the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh) was established in March 1974 under the agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation (USSR) and the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. It is one of the 68 branch offices of Russian Centre for International Scientific and Cultural Cooperation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

It is entrusted with the noble task of promoting friendship and understanding between the peoples of Russia and Bangladesh by staging various programmes and activities aimed at updating Bangladesh public at large on the developments in all spheres of Russian life and creating the atmosphere of a constant cultural dialogue between the two great nations. It organizes seminars, talk programmes, master classes, paintings and photo exhibitions, film festivals and shows.

Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Dhaka boasts a well-equipped library with more than 12000 books in Russian, English and Bengali languages, Russian satellite TV and facilities to browse Internet, air-conditioned auditorium with the seating capacity of 220 people as well as a multi-purpose conference hall, exhibition hall, music saloon, etc.

 It runs Translation Bureau and Russian Language Courses for those eager to pursue higher studies at Russian universities famous for classical curricula, to establish mutually beneficial businesses with Russian companies or just to speak and understand the language of Leo Tolstoi, Fyodor Dostoevski, Maxim Gorki or Anton Chekhov.

 Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Dhaka provides an opportunity for deserving Bangladeshi  school-leavers and college graduates to enroll in best Russian universities for bachelor, master’s, PhD or Doctorate degree courses in international law, economics,  physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmacy, computer, civil or electrical  engineering, etc.

 It operates 9 clubs, studios and classes ranging from theatre and cinema to modern dance and aerobics.

 Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Dhaka is administered by a joint Russian-Bangladeshi crew of professionals comprising linguists, teachers, librarians, musicians, painters, engineers, technicians and other staff.
