Consonants /Согласные

Ь – soft sign, Ъ – hard sign have no special sounds.

Ь –soft sign shows the softness of the previous consonant, Ъ – hard sign also carries out the same function as a ь, but it uses in a little amount of words between the prefix and the root of the word.

Russian consonants can be hard and soft, usually after hard consonant follow a, о, у, ы for example: мама, папа, она, мы, это.

After soft consonants follow я, е, ё, ю, и and ь (soft sign), for example: мята, пять, тетрадь, дверь, мир.

The verb. The Present tense. 1^st conjugation verbs.

All Russian verbs follow two patterns of conjugation: 1^st conjugation and 2^nd  conjugation verbs.

1^st conjugation has endings: -у (-ю), -ешь, -ет, -ем, -ете, -ут (-ют).

The verb Понимать – to understand.

 1^st person Singular    Я понимаю     1^st person Plural        мы понимаем

2^nd person Singular    ты понимаешь  2^nd person Plural      вы понимаете

3^rd person Singular    он/ она понимает  3^rd person Plural   они понимают

Intonation. IK-3- intonation of general questions without question word. The pre-stressed part is pronounced at the speakers middle pitch.
