Consonants/ Согласные [С], [З].

Сс like S in “snow”

Зз like s in “ visit”, z in zoo.

To pronounce the hard consonants [], [], the tip of the tongue should be pressed to the base of the lower teeth, the front is raised towards the alveoli, without touching them.

Ex.1. Read.

Ссса ... сам                                                     сссо ... сок

Сссу ... суп                                                     сссы ... сын

Ассс ... класс                                                  оссс ... нос

Ааа... ззза, за а ... ннн ... за, за – зал

Ааа ... зззо, зо а ... ннн ... зо, зо – Зоя

Ааа ... зззу, зу а ... ннн ...зу , зу – зуб.

 

In articulation of the soft [],[] the tip of the tongue is lowered to touch the lower teeth. The front and the middle part is raised towards the alveoli and the palate, while the sides of the tongue are pressed to the upper teeth, leaving a narrow gap in the middle. The lips are spread.

The Accusative of Personal pronouns.

The Accusative in the меня зовут ... construction.

- Как вас зовут?                                             - What is your name?

- Меня зовут Андрей.                                   - My name is Andrei.

- Как её зовут?                                               - What is her name?

- Её зовут Мария.                                          - Her name is Maria.

- Как его зовут?                                             - What is his name?

- Его зовут Олег.                                           - His name is Oleg.

 

Intonation. Note that IC-2, or Tune 2, could be used in phrases containing address or greeting:

- Здравствуй, Ира.                                         - Hello, Ira.

- Доброе утро, Нина.                                    - Good morning, Nina.
